When it comes to packing for a Sailing in Croatia, you know the basics: dresses, swimsuits, flip flops, hat, sunglasses and sunblock. However, there’s a few items novice sailors might not think to bring along. Here are some tips what to bring for your sailing holiday in Croatia:
First and foremost, pack light! Sailboat cabins can be pretty conservative in size, and you don’t want to feel claustrophobic with unnecessary personal items cluttering up your space. Stick to one suitcase and be sensible with what (and how much) you pack. A duffel bag is recommended — rather than a hard suitcase —in order to fit your bag into tight spots or fold it up once it’s empty.

All-natural ginger chews or Dramamine which can be a bit more powerful for those who are really prone to it. Newly popular PSI wristbands: lightweight wristbands that use acupuncture pressure on the wrist to combat nausea. They’re affordable, surprisingly effective, and recommended by Oprah!
For clothing we recommend several T-shirts, a couple pairs of short and swimsuits, windbreaker or light rain coat, hat, and sunglasses. For shoes, a pair of street, boat, and water shoes are recommended. It’s best to go barefoot on the boat to keep it clean. If you want to wear shoes you can wear something with non-marking soles and good grip. Linens and towels are included, but you might want to pack a separate beach towel. (It is possible to rent a beach towel for the week.) You may be packing for sunshine, but don’t forget that it can get chilly and misty in the evenings. Do not forget a waterproof windbreaker (if it’s a little insulated, even better). If it does rain during your sailing trip in Croatia, you’ll want to keep your clothes dry.
Depending on what sailboat you end up on, you may be stuck with limited use to power outlets. Sometimes there are only one or two outlets on the boat to be shared with every on board. Bring a power bank so you can charge your phone and camera at your convenience. If you’re a light sleeper you must pack ear plugs and an eye mask in case the motor starts up early or the sun shines through the porthole. “Dry Bags” or ZipLock bags for money and electronics. Matches, playing cards, flashlight, small bag for beach trips, and a small notebook or journal for writing notes about the trip! Travel size shampoo, soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste.
Next, consider everything you'll need to take care of while on vacation, especially your skin. With sunny days, sunbathing, and swimming as typical summer activities, you want to avoid regretting sunburns by packing the right sunblock. Avoid oil-based sun protection, as it leaves greasy stains that are difficult to clean; instead, opt for a proper lotion with an appropriate sun protection factor. Also, bring light cover-up clothes such as sarongs and tunics, a big straw hat, and sunglasses!
For a summer sailing trip in the Mediterranean, pack light and breathable clothing. Opt for t-shirts, shorts, swimsuits, and sunglasses to stay comfortable in the warm weather. Bring a wide-brimmed hat for sun protection, along with sunscreen. For footwear, pack deck shoes or water shoes with good grip to prevent slips. A lightweight waterproof jacket is essential in case of sudden rain, and a few evening outfits for dining ashore will ensure you're ready for any formal occasions.
The shoulder sailing season in the Mediterranean brings cooler evenings and variable temperatures, so packing layers is essential. Bring long-sleeve shirts made of breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to keep you comfortable during the day. Pack a few lightweight sweaters or fleece for added warmth during cooler evenings. A good jacket is crucial, preferably a lightweight yet warm one, for windy days and occasional showers. Even though the weather can be unpredictable, you’ll still need your swimwear, so pack a couple of swimsuits for sunny moments. Waterproof clothing is a must, so don’t forget a breathable waterproof jacket. For footwear, water shoes or deck shoes are still important for safety, and comfortable, casual outfits will be perfect for dining ashore in the evenings.

Sailing license
If required, make sure you have the appropriate sailing license for your trip. Some areas may have specific licensing requirements, so it's important to review the list of places where a sailing license is necessary.
Passports and necessary documents
Your passport and any other required documentation are crucial for passing through customs. Ensure your passport is current and easily accessible throughout your travels.
Medications
Don't forget to pack any medications that you or other crew members may need. It's best to keep them in your carry-on bag to ensure they’re readily available when needed.
Space for souvenirs
Your journey will likely create unforgettable memories, and you may want to bring home a souvenir or two. Make sure to leave some extra space in your luggage for any special items you purchase along the way.
JUST FOR FUN:
Sailboats often fly flags to show where they have come from. If you have any flags that you would like to fly, from your country, state, university, favorite sports team, etc. feel free to bring them along! Hammocks and inflatable floats are fun too if it’s not a windy day!
No, Croatia’s sailing culture is casual. You won’t need formal clothes, but pack something comfortable for evenings ashore if you plan to dine at restaurants or explore coastal towns.
Avoid large suitcases, as space on a sailing yacht is limited. Opt for soft-sided luggage or a duffel bag that can be easily stored in the cabin.
Most boats don’t offer laundry services, so pack enough clothes for the duration of the trip or plan to do laundry in port if needed.
Yes, but be mindful of the sea environment. Use waterproof cases or pouches for your electronics to protect them from water damage. You may also want to bring a portable charger.
Stick to versatile clothing that can be mixed and matched, and pack items that can be easily washed and dried. Plan for 2-3 outfits and always pack an extra swimsuit.
